IT IS OFFICIAL!!! It is a true honour to be a part of such a respected and inspirational sisterhood. I must thank Soror Secenario Jones, for all the hard work she has done, for first introducing me to these remarkable ladies and for educating me about the history of SGRho and the future we are trying to make for young women. I also want to thank all the Sorors for making me feel welcomed into the sisterhood.
I am most excited to talk with the ‘cultured pearls’ of the SGR, and learn about their life stories, their successes and tribulations, their achievements and failures; because in the words of Maya Angelou “There is no greater agony, than bearing an untold story inside you.” Everyone has a story, but to live through Martin Luther King and the civil rights movements, World Wars, segregations, integrations, soviet union decolonization, the great depression, the world changing and growing, cultures merging, technologies emerging, must be a page turner. It must have all been so exciting and challenging, yet ever so sad; but these ladies are still smiling. They triumphed, pushed ahead and truly lived because ‘Life loves the liver of it,” though it is not necessarily kind to us.
Our personal stories will inevitable be lost, but “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel,” because “Words mean more than what is set down on paper. It takes the human voice to infuse them with deeper meaning.” Therefore, the voice of pain and suffering, happiness and longing, can only truly be felt by the original raconteur.
