What an experience.

From the start of the world cup in Eindhoven, Netherlands to the end in Beijing, China swimmers held their heads now, and sprinted into the wall. The atmosphere and competitive drive was in the air at every venue, in every race and in every swimmer at these meets.

At first I believed the meets would run similar to college dual meets. You get up and swim 3-4 races and do it again the next day.  However the emotions evolved,  the physical and mental  rollercoasters everyone goes through with every meet, is a river every swimmer must cross to be successful.

The meals for example: I did not fully realize the scope of difference in meals.  For breakfast the meals changed the most.  Some countries eat noodles or rice, soups or a lot of fried foods for breakfast. They have different flavours, fruits, levels of digestabily that others do not.  Thats where I believe the home advantage lies.

Some differences have been good and others….well, different- but Its fun and surprising going to the different countries and enjoying their cultures, food and traditions.

It was also such a pleasure to meet and swim with such great swimmers. I met new and old friends and a great time and journey with them.

The pool I loved the most was Singapore.  Being a Jamaican and training at South Florida Aquatic club (SOFLO). I am partial to outdoor pools!

Lastly I loved all the countries and it was an experience I will learn from and use for future meets and hopefully at next year’s 2014 SWC as well. 😀

Until we meet again
